How about this for an idea? A new take on how to deal with rising petrol/diesel costs

We used to put a tenner in each time we went for petrol but for about the past month we have been going by litres. So now we put 10 litres in each time and try and get as much as possible out of them. First few times we were only getting between 62 and 66 miles per 10 litres but with changing the way we drive we are now getting between 70 and 76 with one time a fantastic 84 miles. :j Less fuel in the tank means a lighter car so you get further for your litre. We will only fill the tank up now when we are going to Mull camping in July. Would hate to guess at the price over there now.:eek:The person who moves a mountain begins by carrying small stones.

I kind-of do it by the litre as I fill my tank and know it will last 4 weeks if I do my normal miles, but also know exactly how much it's costing me though so it's still rather depressing.
Got myself a wee 1.3 banger of a fiesta at the start of April, driving the boyfriends boy-racer car was killing me on fuel as I need a car for work because the buses don't run frequently here
Just 2 months ago unleaded was 118.9p today I filled the tank and it was 123.9p (diesels £1.40) doesn't help that I have to drive past the cheapest filling station everyday either, keep my eye on the price board! The debtWILLbegone - taking it 1% at a time

think unleaded is 140p+ on the islands scottish mummy. There was something on the grampian news last week but to be honest i didn't pay attention.
I noticed a post saying it will rise to 200p+ soon. seriously that will kill our budget.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

:T Hi,
tesco do 5p off a litre if you spend over £25. go into the shop, spend £26 on clothes, fill your tank with the 5p per litre off, then take the clothes back.
good money saving idea dont you think.

I normally put £10 a week in the car, on the odd occasion I have filled up, I've found I can get 200 miles or so (but I drive in rush hour so lots of stop-starts, not good for petrol economy). When I'm able to use motorways for holidays etc I can get nearly 300 miles on a tank.
Sadly cycling isn't really an option at the moment - too unsafe to use public roads. I'd arrive at work in the ambulance (and that wouldn't do much for productivity)!DFW Nerd Club #545 Dealing With Our Debt

Rightyho then peeps. For me 6 months ago, my budget for 2 cars a month was £90. 6 months ago it was £1.00 per litre so for me the monthly budget is now £120 as it has gone by 30p a litre (30%). So if I use a calculation £90 / £1.30 = 69(wahey  litres. At 45 MPG that gives me a range for each car of 350 miles per month. Its doable and Im gonna try it. And I suppose the good thing to come from these higher fuel prices for those of us dont have to rely on our car if we really get into it is that we pay as we go and probably will change our lifestyles which in actual fact may not be a bad thing. Not that I'm supporting higher fuel prices. I need some ZTD analysis on fuel prices here and what's driving 'em up.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. How to get round it?
Change your job so instead of 25 miles a day you're only driving 10 and not paying for parking any more either (and that includes popping home for lunch every day)
I haven't been to a petrol station in more than 5 weeks

My work is a 15 mile round trip. It means a 1 hour round trip on the bike. I would have to shower on getting to work which means getting there earlier. But it would mean more exercise and the exercise would be free. Ive only got 4 weeks to go at my job now so it may be worth trying eh. Im off to think about it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi Everyone,
I cover at least 1,400 miles a month and these prices are killing me at the moment. I think it is coming in at £175/month.
I have an alternative plan. Why don't we start a petition on http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ for Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling to do the decent thing and resign in favour of people who can do a better job of running things and controlling prices - perhaps Mr Blobby and Papa Smurf could be persuaded to help.
How much longer can this go on before we go pop as a nation.

At a risk of banging on, I thought Brown had a bloomin cheak asking for cheaper fuel - it's him that shovels 75% tax on top of it !!. grrrrrrr.
