How about this for an idea? A new take on how to deal with rising petrol/diesel costs

Well today whilst putting some diesel in my car as I watched the £s over take the litres at a rapid rate of knots, I thought to myself 'This is depressing' how can I cope with this ; mentally that is. I run my fuel budget on a monetary basis and frankly its depressing so how about changing my budget from £s spent to litres used? And fill by the litre not the £. So today I put 16 litres in which cost £20.74 i think. I didnt look at the amount I spent, just the litres and I felt a little better. Good idea or should I get my coat?? Len

I run mine by the fact I need a tank full a week which is kinda what you're suggesting but it's getting a bigger and bigger number (£) each week so not helping much! I need this amount to get to work and for the tiny amount of personal milage each week. Lots of places round here seem to be running out of diesel at the mo.Mortgage OP 2025 £7550/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

Interesting idea Len, what ever works for you...
I hate filling my car up now, it's so depressing!Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
So instead of stcking to a budget for the fuel you could use litres, try to stick to it. Of course this would mean that you would try to drive more economically save money and reduce your carbon footprint. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. If you run your budget on the
litres value that won't change but the £ value will
so could put your money budget out (or in if prices go down)
but don't ask me i don't drive:pPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT NERD #869

I already do that Len but like Numpty says if I didn't take price into account it would throw my budget out. I heard on the radio that petrol sales had fallen by 20% I think it was because of the prices but I couldn't do a fifth less miles or I'd not be able to work. if only it was close enough to cycle... will be using the car a lot less during the school hols though this year.Mortgage OP 2025 £7550/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

Someone I work with has given up their car and now cycles 20 odd miles a day- there's an option :eek:No longer using this account for new posts from 20130

Get a folding bike. Keep it in the boot of the car. Keep the car a mile from your house and park it a mile before your destination.
Desperate ... but saves 40-50p per journey or more!0 -
My OH filled up our car the other day - £59!!! Nightmare. Thank goodness I sold my car last year and we're managing on one. We're definitely thinking twice about every journey and using the bikes more. OH used to use the car for work on days I didn't need it but now he's cycling anyway and the car just stays on the drive. I guess we'll all get healthier!0

I was £140 in diesel last week. I filled the motor on Thursday it cost £72 when I got it in September it was £54.
We put our prices up a few weeks ago. We had no choice. Unfortunately most on here don't have that choice. We are noticeably quieter this week.£2 coin/ £460 -
My car has a 70 litre tank and at 115p a litre the figure is eyewatering. At the moment a tank is doing me the month. I remember when i passed my test. £15 almost filled my little 1.3 escort. and even then i thought it pricey and in my poor student days used to put in £3 at a time.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000
