TalkTalk hard sell

I'm looking for some advice re TalkTalk.
A TalkTalk sales rep knocked on my door asking if I wanted to sign up to TalkTalk after receiving their sales pack in the post a couple of weeks ago. I never received any pack to look at prior to his visit.
His approach was pretty full on, very much hard sell. Given i'm on the cheapest BT line rental and don't use the landline for calls only broadband access is it worth changing?
I said we would think about it before committing to it, he then asked for his sales pack back as it was only for customers who sign up there and then.
Any advice would be appreciated. I have looked at Martin's articles re cheapest calls to landlines and mobiles but i'm still not sure if it would be worth signing up.
Thanks for any advice.
Cheers.

I think talk talk is 50p cheaper pre month than BT.
BT are £10.50 and talk talk £10 I think
In general I don't think you will find anyone much cheaper than BT, only about £6 per year.
Personally I would not be happy with the approach taken.
I would want the material to read.
If you are keen you can find all the information on their website but for £6 per year you'd need to be an "ardent" money saver.0 -
Have a read of this recent thread on the very same subject.

Cheers for the replies.
I did find the thread on this subject, cheers Pricefighter.
Given the saving would be minimal I'll probably give them a miss. Might email to complain on the approach of the rep. When I suggested to him that his sales tactic was pushy and aggresive, he carried on the hard sell and also questioned how I felt he was too forward.
Not impressed by his tactics, the impression he gave was of someone who was on commission and didn't want to waste his time if I wouldn't sign up there and then. He was filling in the registration form before I had said yes which didn't help.
Cheers again, I will keep an eye out for more discussions on TalkTalk/cheapest providers.0 -
Even if you dont make any calls with them, youll get £10 in Nectar points if you sign up to Talktalk. Be rude not to!!!illegitimi non carborundum0

Man-in-a-cheap-suit appeared at the front door today, tried to sell me TalkTalk line rental, I explained that I would stay with BT for the line rental but that I already used TalkTalk on CPS, I added that TalkTalk could prevent me from using 18866 if I signed up for TalkTalk's line rental, he made his apologies and left. Was I correct to make this comment? Perhaps I could sign up and amend the T & Cs to allow use of 18866?
I'm always interested to see sales techniques and I have some sympathy for door-to-door, but why is it that when they appear at the door I automatically assume the worst?
I usually tell the Jehovas that I am Jedi, one day I'll answer the door in the full Alec Guiness cloak and light sabre.0 -
You were. TalkTalk like OneTel do have in their t&c that they can block or charge extra for using indirect access companies like Call18866/1899, etc. In fact, they also state that whilst having their line rental they may charge more than what BT's charge if you tried to override TalkTalk and use BT.Micky wrote:...tried to sell me TalkTalk line rental, I explained that I would stay with BT for the line rental but that I already used TalkTalk on CPS, I added that TalkTalk could prevent me from using 18866 if I signed up for TalkTalk's line rental, he made his apologies and left. BT are still the cheapest for some calls at certain times plus they offer free caller display via BT Privacy. Oh and the most important thing is whilst keeping your line rental with BT you can choose from all the call providers out there and you are not limiting yourself to just TalkTalk just to save 50p per month.0 -
