GE Capital Bank Store Card

My wife recently obtained one of these cards for her purchases in our new BHS Store. There is an option to pay a £1.50 annual fee to cover items you have bought at a regular price and are later reduced in a sale and they will then refund the difference. My wife paid the £1.50 and she has just tried to claim on an item that was reduced in the sale. As a good disciple of Martin's and after having got a geographical number for the 0870 number on the card, she finally spoke to an Indian lady whose voice kept breaking up and who referred her to the Insurance Dept on another 0870 number. My wife asked for a geographical number but was told that was the only number she had. As this was only a claim for a £5 credit she could have easily spent that on an 0870 call so has now abandoned the claim unless we can find a geographical number to call. She will make her fellings felt the next time she is in the store and I'm sure your readers will want to know about this scam. As with most Insurance companies they make it as difficult as possible to claim and as with this claim most people will give up before they get their money back. This company underwrites many other stores like Dorothy Perkins, Burtons, Top Shop, Topman so their income from the £1.50 option must be considerable

News today on WorkingLunch BBC2, that 0870 numbers will soon be for the chop, they will have to charge only the same as any national rate number, and also the profit sharing ruse that allows companies using 0870 numbers to cash in will be cut out, they will no longer be able to earn from it. Lets hope this causes an end to the whole idea of 0870 and it will be no use to companies using it!

It is obviously no use taking out this insurance against higher charges, I have not personally done this, but have had it quoted to me. Thx for letting everyone know what a waste of time and effort is is.
