Phd Conference-taxable expenses?

Hi,
I'm attending a conference to present a paper, costing 150 for the conference and 30 for train fare. The university's given me a 'grant' (it calls it) of 120 but says it should be taxed - is this right?
I work for a different company part time, taking home 600 a month (after tax, so if it *is* taxable I'd have to pay).
Basically, I want to know if this is right or not. Thanks!!

thankfully all my expenses are paid back tax free, but there should certainly be guidelines explaining how this works from central finance.:happyhear0
