Phd Conference-taxable expenses?

Hi,
I'm attending a conference to present a paper, costing 150 for the conference and 30 for train fare. The university's given me a 'grant' (it calls it) of 120 but says it should be taxed - is this right?
I work for a different company part time, taking home 600 a month (after tax, so if it *is* taxable I'd have to pay).
Basically, I want to know if this is right or not. Thanks!!

if it's expenses, then i wouldn't expect you to pay tax on it at all.....:happyhear0

That's not necessarily true. Our university does deduct tax from expenses that are repaid in certain circumstances (eg. travel claims from part-time, temporary tutors). It might be that they can claim them back at the end of the tax year, though?melancholly wrote: »if it's expenses, then i wouldn't expect you to pay tax on it at all.....3-6 Month Emergency Fund #14: £9000 / £10,0000 -
thankfully all my expenses are paid back tax free, but there should certainly be guidelines explaining how this works from central finance.:happyhear0
