you may have to give it permision to connect to the net on your firewall,
  • did you try clicking the troubleshoot button? Because this kept happening to me. I have to say I am not pleased with this new version of MSN. Keeps telling me there is some error so I have to click troubleshooting & then it works. Never had the problem before.
    Hope that helps maybe?

thanks I'll try both of those, if i can remember how to allow it with my firewall

i'm getting a different error message now, it says : signing into msn messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable, please try again later

Try sending a email to their help desk, they get back quickly and are really helpful!

Hmm, I may pass on upgrading!

yes, that's the message i get. on that box should be a troubleshooting box & if you click that it should then try & fix the problem & work.

    If you get this error:

    80048820.png

    Then try this:
    Causes

    1. The system clock may be set incorrectly.
    2. The Dynamic Link Library (DLL) softpub.dll, may not be registered on the system.
    3. Internet Explorer may be using an invalid proxy server.

    Resolutions

    1. Double click on the clock in the taskbar and make sure the system clock is set correctly.

    2. Register softpub.dll using the regsvr32.exe tool.

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regsvr32 softpub.dll and then click OK.
    Restart MSN Messenger.

    3. Remove any Internet Explorer proxy server settings.

    Hope it helps.
