Checking file system on c drive

A couple of times a week my laptop when turned on will say that its checking the file system on the c drive, ive found this post which is what i had on my screen, but i cant find the cmos option as the stated by TonyLisaP, can anyone offer any advice, the laptop also had blue screen of death as well if the 2 are related but i dont think they are, the laptop is using xp, does windows keep a log of why it may hve bsod http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=869711&highlight=checking+disk

Not all BIOS implementations let you enable/disable SMART on attached hard disks (e.g. I have a Compaq Evo which doesn't).
However, that doesn't mean that SMART isn't enabled on the drive - just that the BIOS won't monitor and report impending failure.
If you find out the make of drive and download the manufacturers diagnostic utilities, these will often let you see the SMART status (e.g. Seagate's Seatools shows whether SMART has tripped on a failing drive - and allows you to reset it).0 -
