Ive just had a delivery courtesy of the npower £1 a roll offer. ( I think i over estimated as there does seem to be an awefull lot of it !)..anyway its the stuff in the wide rolls that you saw through to fit joist width, then remove wrapper and unroll. Is it best to just add this on top of the existing stuff, which isnt that deep and is a bit battered and compressed in places? The new stuff is 170mm i think
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I recently did our loft out. I know there can be problems with permission of use but I have lots of friends who utilise their lofts and have not applied to building regs. Having said that, the building regulations are there for a reason and the safety of your home is hugely important. Especially if you use it for a kids playroom shrek101!

We decided to insulate our whole home to try to cut down on heating bills. We had some very dodgy advise too kissmekate! Just because someone is a 'builder' doesn't mean they know their stuff! You're best off with a registered company! It can be an expensive business if you go to the wrong place. We used The Mark Group. They have a scheme where you can apply for grant assisted insulation. We had our cavity walls done and it cut our costs dramatically. I wouldn't like to say how much as it was a year or so ago but our friends used them more recently and managed to get funding with their project too! Worth a look!

Thanks for the spam, Mark. Now.......

That's exactly what I did - most of the loftspace I laid the new stuff over the existing insulation to make it over 300mm, though an area around the hatch I left with just the previous, cross-laid battens across the top of the joists to strengthen and leave an air gap and fitted some tongue-and-groove chipboard to use as a storage space.

    Job's a good'un.

When we had the energy survey done for our HIPs she measured the thickness of our insulation and then said as it was boarded ontop she had to halve the measurement as the boarding halved the insulating properties due to lack of air circulation, not sure how true it is, but thats what she said.

Doesn’t sound very true to me, insulation works by trapping air not circulating it.

She might have had a point if your boards had compressed the insulation

    Hey Voice of Reason,
I received a wierd letter on Thursday saying that I was going to get my loft insulated on Monday, so to make sure it was empty, though later on it mentioned being free to council tenants - I am an owner occupier so ignored the letter.
Today, Monday, my area is awash with Mark Group vans and young people wearing red tops and hats - they all look like students! I got on Google to find out if this company was pukka - looks a bit dodgy to me - came across your list but it hasn't raised any articles on Google!
So what's the story. Do you have a personal axe to grind? Is the company definitely dodgy and if so where's the proof? I am concerned if my neighbours are letting people waste their time and the council waste their (my) money so would appreciate a follow up.
I did find the court case with JPA and MIL etc which was interesting but not relevant to this.
