has that ever been the case

When we moved in i got a kettle that boils on the stove now i think maybe i should have got an electric kettle (i know it sounds petty but every little counts!?)

I have just got our npower bill for 4 months and it is about £53 a month but electric seems so much cheaper ??

Well it should be, I would not dream of using electricity to heat water when I have gas.

hmm 4 months of electric is less than £124 ie £31 p/m and our account is about £0.00 every time we get a bill
4 months of gas is £237

Gas boiler - rubbish combi , gas hobs , electric oven , two tellys , laptop , energy saving bulbs

I just think gas is expensive in comparison ?

Just because your gas bill is higher than your electric bill does not mean gas is more expensive than electric, all it means is you have used more kwh of gas than electric. Not surprising as you have gas central heating and I presume the 4 months included some winterish months?
In an ideal world it would take the same amount of kwh to boil a certain amount of water using gas or electric. However you must take into account the efficiency of the equipment doing the boiling and I guess a gas hob is less efficient than a kettle but by how much I do not know.
    Happy boiling.
