Recommendations for a hotel in Dublin for a family of 4

hiya, just booked my flights to Dublin from Manchester for 8p, but now I have to find a hotel for 1 night October 14th that's on a budget, I have had a quick look and all seem to be around £100, which I'm hoping to get much cheaper because I only booked these flights so my girls can experience flying.

I have 2 girls ages 6 & 7 years, so I need a hotel that is family friendly and is easy to get to from Dublin Airport. We have never been to Dublin, therefore any tips or advise on getting around and what to see with my girls would much be appreciated!

    Thanks
  • I did the same thing in April, I left booking the hotel room till a couple of days before and the rate came down from approx £170 to £45, I stayed at the Harcourt hotel which has links with George Bernard Shaw and it was very good, on par with the Hoxton in London. It was a short walk(two streets) from main shopping area, uni etc, and a tram stops virtually outside, they have a web site to book on or you could go through citycentrehotels.com. The other alternative is to check out the local youth hostels as they have family/triple/double rooms but they fill up early as they are cheap. We just strolled around taking in the atmosphere and shopping, the temple bar area is quite lively in the early evening with street musicians and entertainers(don't know about october?) There is a tourist info available on the internet. If you have time there is always the zoo, which is in the city, you can use the voucher off kellogs for this. There is a bus service from the airport that is cheap and cheerful, you will need coins for this as they wont take paper money, it will take you straight to main shopping area/ O' Connell street. There are the usual Mcdonalds etc in town and Debenhams & other department stores which have eating facilities. If you prefer to eat on the run you can go to tescos or boots

We are flying next Tuesday (got our flights for 8p last time they had the 1p sale) and we are staying for one night at the Hilton by the airport. We have to be back at the airport about 9 on Wednesday morning and thought it best to have a hotel close by. The room for the 4 of us, including dinner and breakfast was £140. I didn't think this was too bad as it included the meals. I also booked it through Quidco and got cashback too. I did book this a few months back as I didn't want to leave it until the last minute.
  • We booked an apartment here, http://www.gogartys.ie/accommodation/ was very good for the price, loads of room and right in the centre of temple bar. I think they do a range of accomodation.

Recomend the bus form the airport, v friendly staff, had no problems changing a note for us, you can also use your ticket on all the local busses all day[not the tourist buses].

The breakfasts here were very good too, http://bewleyscafe.com/

We stayed in a Gogarty's apartment too! It was really good, we just bought breakfast supplies from the shop at the top of the road, and had fish and chips from Burdocks for 1 tea. Ate out for the rest. Number 6 right at the end, bit of a trek up the stairs if you have an evil hubby like mine! He said I needed to work off the guiness so no lift for me!

Did it take you half an hour to get the door open/locked too?

Whatever you do, dont stay at the Dublin Citi Hotel! I stayed there last month and the room was dirty and extremely small! It was supposed to have been a twin room but one bed was squashed horizontally in underneath the window and touched both side walls of the room and the other bed was vertical, so the other bed had the other persons feet in their face when they were sleeping! It was also extremely noisy and was quite expensive.

There is a very nice hotel in tallaght which is approx 12 KM out of town but has good tram links. The tallaght cross hotel has only recently opened and is extremely well presented with attention to detail (and a massive bed!!!) It is close to a shopping complex aswell which is very convienient. When we booked it had an offer on where if you stayed 2 nights you got the 3rd night free. I booked this hotel through the Ryanair website and got this offer, Im not sure if its still running though.

With 2 youngish kids I'm not sure Gogarty's would be a good idea??

Temple Bar can get very lively.

I'd suggest the Millenium Walk Apartments, I booked via Laterooms.com, which you can get cashback via Quidco.com.
