Hi
I've have one of these in my room and had hoped the bulb had gone but I've just brought a new one and it still doesn't work!
I don't know much about these but I do know that some fluorescent bulbs have some kind of 'starter' or fuse thingy (technical term! ) that have to be replaced... I'm hoping that I don't have to get it rewired!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320214028974&_trksid=p2759.l1259
if anyone has any knowledge of these or know a good site I can have a look on - it would be very helpful - I've googled a bit but only get sites that sell the actual bulb!
Thanks

(this room is a nightmare - I've got some kind of bugs too and full of bites on my shoulders and arms!!!! aarrrgghhhh.. not having a great week!)

4 pin fluorescent lamps are used either with an electronic controller (ballast) or an external starter (2 pin lamps have a built in starter).
The starter is a small canister and rotates a quarter turn to remove.

Only need 1 not a pack of 25 though. Try DIY store.
If you don't have a starter then it could be a faulty electronic controller.0 -
If you go to B&Q or Homebase you should be able to get a starter.
One rated 4-65 W should do. Don't get one rated 125 W or it may not work.
Price should be about £2 (wholesaler price is 60p  )baldly going on...0 -
Hi
just went to a DIY store and got a 4-65w, 80w 220-240v ac single external starter!
Thanks for the name guy's ... didn't have a clue what to call it! lol
but I've just tried it and it doesn't work!
Think the whole thing is broken!
I'll have to wait until a friend friend gets home from holiday and get him to have a look... I can change a plug but that's it for my electrical knowledge!

did I get the wrong one then... I asked in the shop - she had two types but she said this one should work... knew I should have insisted on getting both.. they were only 70p each!
at least I know where to buy it from now.

You have a 28W lamp so a 4-65W starter is correct.0
