in Credit cards
Hi. For 12 years my husband & I have had a HSBC credit card. I do not use mine very often here in the UK but when I go abroad I tend to use it for simplicity. My average spend is probably £300 a month. My husband does use his very often for work & probably on average spends £3000/£4000 a month. Now two things have happened recently which have spurred me on to change. I have had this thought in the back of my mind for a while, but as Martin quite rightly says "we get lazy & don't want the hassle" Anyway I digress.....
On the 12th May this yr, my card was cloned. £1200 was taken, all on the internet & it was mainly for flights, hotels etc. I found out the name of the guy that had used the card & rang the bank to tell them & to my astonishment they were not really interested! They were more bothered as to how i had found out this guys name because of "data protection" Their take on the whole matter was, "its only just over a £1000 MADAM, your protected, we will investigate it, so don't worry about it!"
Their negative attitude really made me cross but needless to say even though in their eyes, its a minimal amount & I don't think for one minute they will follow it up, I still had to fill out umpteen fraud forms for each transaction. There were six seperate transactions & I received four forms. I have now made phone call number four for yet another form for two transactions made by this cheat with Ryanair. Now a month has gone by & because they have failed to send me the form for the Ryanair dispute (despite four requests) my date for payment is overdue. I telephoned them yet again to ask what i should pay as i always pay my balance off each month. They told me it could take 6 - 8 weeks before they hear back from Ryanair & seeing as I haven't had the form yet, its going to be longer than that, so i was advised to pay this debt & once HSBC hear back, if it was fraud then I will be credited! I am furious that I should have to pay nearly £300 now for something I haven't purchased & it could be at least a couple of months before i get my money back. The second problem we have had is on my husbands a/c. For the first time in 12 years we missed to make a payment on the said date. Now I know this is down to us & I FULLY understand that we have to pay a late payment charge & interest & I am more than happy to do so. However, in 12 years we have both religiously paid on the dot ALL of the balance due, which HSBC can check, but we find out today that my husbands card has been frozen until a payment is made!!!! Charges are one thing & as I say we are happy to pay those but can they really just stop your card without a word? Needless to say that niggle at the back of my mind to change cards has surfaced "big time". I was fed up before with spending on our cards & getting nothing back but now with their attitude, I am determined to switch but would like some help on which card would be best? I have looked at Virgin as we travel to the States once or twice a year & this looks like it gives good points as rewards. The only problem i have with this is that they are American Express & from information I have gleened lots of companies, here in the UK would not take this card? This could be a problem for my husband if so. I shop generally at Sainsburys so was thinking that may be the way to go? Basically i just want to take my business elsewhere & be rewarded for using my card & paying off our balance every month Any help anyone can offer??

Hi- abbey zero does not charge when you make payments with it abroad which could be useful if you travel a lot- lloyds airmiles duo cards give you points which can be converted to airmiles or other goods etc- you get 2 cards - american express and mastercard - you get more points per £ spent on the american express
hope that helpsKeep the Faith:cool:0
