Does anyone know the best food to give to a jack russell??

Mine lives on a sort of dried food, occassional tin, occassional sardine, egg every so often and scrap food diet.

He has a lovely soft coat - moults like a biatch though - and is generally happy, healthy bouncy - extra bouncy today though. But im jsut wondering - he was on Gusto which was for working dogs and he got fat as he was poorly whilst he had it and barely moved form his bed, then i put him on tins over xmas when again he was still ill for the meat content but he was very windy :eek: now hes on a sort of combo of dried and tinned but he gets rice/pasta/veg scraps every so often and like i said a tin of sardines/egg as a treat. Ive seen people with their dogs on just dried food etc and wondered if anyone else had any recommendations for him? i heard there is a specific jack russell food but don't know the name of it.

Also should add my dog is 7, hes not a working jack, but is very active, and is prone to gettign ill at winter (think it is a psychological thing and he was prehaps shut outside in the cold so he seems to lose ALOT of weight around the winter months) so Id like to make sure he gets all the nutrients he needs to keep him happy and healthy. He was having a conditioning tablet for his coat too but he seems to prefer the sardines


Any suggestions then girls?

Stick with a more natural kind of dry food which is free from cereal (rice based is better), no colourings or 'various sugars' (makes them hypo), no EC additives (may be linked to cancer and other illnesses)... try to avoid beef, pork, lactose...

Wainwrights, James Belbeloved and Burns are good...
tinned foods are also full of junk so it is better for him to add sardines, tuna, chicken, basically anything natural that your dog loves to munch on! (fish is great for his coat)

The occasional marrowbone from the butchers will also give him lots of minerals and keep his teeth clean and healthy as well as keeping him happy!

I wouldn't bother with a conditioning tablet if you can get him on a diet of the above as he will get everything he needs from that.
