Warning Barclays Bank Email

Dear all,
I have just looked at my emails and have been sent one from "Barclays bank" <support_ref_38819257512303@barclays.co.uk>.

It has asked for me to complete details due to an Online security alert. The thing is, i am NOT a Barclays customer!!!

Please, Please be careful. I am sure you all are but this is obviously a fradulant email!

Little does this internet fool realise that i will be fowarding the email to a good friend who works for the head office at Barclays. Ha! :T

I get a few of these from barclays to the email address I hardly ever use, in fact havent used for years - since before I moved to Barclays, I just forward them to Barclays each time, each time they say - surprise surprise - its not one from them!

  • I actually thought it was the real one. until i remembered that barclays will never ask you for your pin number. Be very cautious and how does one notify barclays.
    I owe £3233 @ 0%
  • After posting the opening message, i deleted the message without forwrding it on! I was afraid that my friend would open the email as an attachment and it could possible have a virus!
Didint really want to be responsible for something like that. Besides, i had a look at Barclays web page and there is no email addresses to report fraudalent emails!!!!

This where you want to send it to :- internetsecurity@barclays.co.uk

This email address is located right at the bottom of their main page, in tiny blue letters. I have forwarded these phising emails to them before and Barclays will get back to you about it.

I had one this morning, when I clicked 'properties' there was a list of email addresses that were similar to mine. Also on the 'To' bit it wasn't even my address so I can't work out how it ended up in my inbox in the first place

  • I have had them from " Virgin" , " HSBC", and "Barclays ". Knowing i have no accounts with these i simply delete them. Not worth the risk.
  • Beside which if you are not sure just give the bank a call they will soon let you know !!!!!!!
  • Word of advice- dont use Outlook Express, switch to something like Thunderbird (mozilla.org) - its free and doesnt suffer from these bugs where the address is spoofed. Stick to webmail if you can - normally gmail flags up at the top saying there is something suspicious about the email. There are similar ebay, paypal and other bank emails going around. I forward them to the appropriate abuse immediately - ebay deal with them within the hour normally.
