New Star Savings ?

Hi,
I have been looking at savings and investments and was told by a friend that New Star would be a good company to use? Have you had any dealings with them? or do you think I could do better elsewhere?
Thanks,
Terry.

New Star was founded in 2000 by John Duffield after his acrimonious split with Commerzbank, the new owners of Jupiter (which he also started !).
He has recruited (poached) some excellent star fund managers (hence the name) who run some first class funds, although many of them have been so successful and proved so popular with investors that they are now of a size which doesn't appeal to me personally.
All depends which areas/sectors you are considering investing into - few, if any, investment houses can have top quartile funds in all of them.
Have you considered using a fund supermarket which doesn't limit you to any one particular investment group but where you can pick and choose funds from many different ones ?0 -
If your friend told you that New Star would be a good company to use, then he clearly doesn't know much about investments and you shouldnt be following his advice.
As Carnet explains, New Star are a fund manager that offer a range of funds. Some have been performing quite well, others less well. However, what the future holds is unknown.
A fund supermarket is clearly the better approach.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I use Hargreaves Lansdown as my fund supermarket, they discount heavily and even give you some renewal commission back.
