Warning: Talk Talk £70 cessation fee - why didn't anyone tell me?

I was well out of the 18th month contract and when I got my final bill, they'd charged me a £70 cessation fee. Turns out this was mentioned in the small print in the booklet I was sent AFTER I'd signed up. It completely wiped out any savings I might have made. Why doesn't anyone, including this site, mention these charges when discussing Talk Talk and other companies which must do this? Is there anything I can do to get my money back? (They took it from the Direct Debit).

Was that for requesting your ADSL MAC?They can switch back only if they pay Talk Talk a £70 cessation fee and the reconnection could take up to three weeks.

Direct Debits come with a guarantee and you can ask your bank to recover the money if you believe the charge to be incorrect. However, if the charge is in line with TalkTalk T&Cs (which you have implicitly accepted) then I cannot recommend this action as TalkTalk will simply pass the debt to a collection agency and it will finish up on your credit history.0

I can't see anything about it in the T&C.Payments Due on Termination
10.8 If your Contract has a Minimum Period and you terminate the Service before the end of that Minimum Period you must pay us, as compensation for our losses the lower of the following:
10.8.1 an amount equal to any costs that we incur in disconnecting you from the Service; or
10.8.2 an amount equal to the total monthly fees which you would have had to pay under your Contract up to the end of the Minimum Period.
10.9 We will not charge you anything if you cancel your LR or Call Service within 10 working days from the date on which you agreed to take those services.
10.10 If you wish to cancel an Order before the Commencement Date, you accept that we may charge you a disconnection fee (which for example for the Broadband Service is currently up to £55) for any work that may have been done at your local exchange.

I did a search in the T&C for £70 and cessation and both came back blank.10.8.1 an amount equal to any costs that we incur in disconnecting you from the Service; or
Maybe its that one.0 -
Its not the sites responsibility.
You have to take responsibility to ensure you familiarise yourself with the terms & conditions of whatever you sign up for.
At the bottom of every page on here:All tips are followed at your own risk and should be followed up with your own research0 -
Did you by any chance change your Talk Talk package during the first 18 months, if you did they normally start another 18 month term from that date.
If you did not a cancellation charge does not normally apply if your out of contract.0 -
I'm trying to terminate the service and they are trying to charge me £70 because I fall within an 18 month contract.
I have been with TalkTalk for over 25 months, but moved home after a year.
They told me that they signed me up to a new 18 month contract when I moved.
THIS CAN'T BE RIGHT???
I told them that I had the service transferred, and it states no where in the t&c that you get placed on a new contract. Defies the definition of transfer!!!!
They are giving me the run around and will not identify where it states in the t&c that I have to pay it.
They are the most rubbish service imaginable. I transferred just to run the contract to its end, and they tell me this!!!
I don't see how you (or I) could possibly be liable!0 -
It has been mentioned several times on here about the £70 fee. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
