Im just about to buy a number plate from demon plates and wanted to confirm - the logos they are offering under the GB sign are considered illegal?
The only road legal one is the EU stars with GB below on a blue background. All the rest can result in a tug / MOT fail. It is also the only one that can be used in Europe in place of a GB sticker. Any other badge / emblem including SCO, ENG, IRL, CYMRU without a GB sticker could involve being tugged by the continental plod who are not as nice as our boys in blue.

    Regs were amended to allow

    British Union Flag with “GB”,
English Flag (St George Cross) with “ENG”,
Scottish Flag (St Andrew Cross) with “SCO”,
Welsh Flag (red dragon on green/white field) with “Wales” and “Cymru”
Euro Flag (circle of stars) with “GB”

    in 2009

They're not illegal in europe, but you would still need to put a GB sticker on the car, unless you have GB with the euro flag.

For use within UK only. (The demon plates site only lists the legal GB one, all its other uk ones are not legal)

Edited the above, but you beat me to it.

Can be used legally in europe, subject to use of the old GB sticker, as before.

I think we are saying the same thing, it is just that demon plates only have one badge that is legal be it in EU or just UK.

The GB the British flag, even though it has the EU flag may well be legal.
The way the regs are written, and the directgov website
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/PersonalisedRegAndNumberPlates/DG_181503

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_067666.pdf

suggest it's not a set list and pick and mix is not illegal.
So the first five on the demon plates, may well be, (for england etc)

But if you don't comply to the EU flag size, you need the GB sticker.

They also say you need a GB sticker to enter Switzerland, I never bothered with one, just the GB euro plate, and most of the Italian, French and German drivers didn't either. It seems to be ignored although the Swiss did seem to display CH going the other way! Swiss are more interested in you paying for a years vignette.

If I am correct you do not need a sticker or a country identifier for foreign vehicles coming here right enough.

Equally I've seen loads of cars in Dover not bothering with beam deflectors or GB stickers. Up to them but the French police can be bloody minded about these things.

I guess people who have plates like that want to draw attention to themselves. They just have to be very careful that they don't draw the wrong kind of attention. And if they do, don't complain about it.
