Oh no. Have I ruined things

Oh dear
I've just realised my GE payment is due today and havent paid it, I usually pay it over the net.
I've just tried to phone but they aren't open yet, but even if I do it will still take a few days to reach the account:cry:

I can't beleive I've done this
Should I give up now?

Does anyone know just how bad it will be?

Plead insanity and beg for mercy, if you have never missed a payment before you may get away with it.
  • Really!

Could that work or are you just kidding me?
I will try it if it could help.
  • If you call them today, you may be able to pay by debit card and be able to get any late payment charge waived.

    Good luck!

  • Well I phoned them.
I said to the man on the phone that the payment was due that same day, and would there be a fee with the payment being late. He said the payment wasn't late as I was paying by debit card on the due date which I questioned, as I thought He was wrong but He assured me it would be ok, so I just made the payment and left it at that.
I'll wait for the nasty letter to arrive now informing me that I failed to pay on time and for next months statement with late payment fees....Oh and the battering my credit rating will get :(:(:(
  • Virgin did that with me, my min payment was due on 10th. I know that payments usually take around 4 days to clear so when i phoned an explained that i thought my payments wasn't due until 14th (honest mistake) one woman claimed that i would be able to pay immediately by debit card, the only way to avoid the late payment charge. I called back later on that afternoon with my card details only to be told that it would take 4 days to clear the account anyway. It's often the case with CC companies that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I have been told that i will be charged on my next statement
  • Oh !!!!!!

I' will have to live with it then :(

Not so much the late payment fee but how it will effect my credit rating :(:(:(

Let us all know how you get on.

American company = Wham bam thank you mam, so I would not give much for your chances. (Presumably it is part of General Electric - A big company with more cash flow than it knows what to do with, but I could be wrong).

So that will be 12 quid plus interest? Better overpay it to avoid more interest on interest?

A friend of mine worked in a similar organisation and they referred to their customers as "flowers" or "weeds". You sound a bit of a "flower" - that is someone who pays interest even though you have a good credit rating and don't really need a high interest loan.
(The "weeds" were people who struggled to pay and so cost the bank money micro managing their unsecured loans).

As long as you own real assets, have a half decent regular salary and no obvious big family liabilities, your behaviour may have improved your rating - up until 6 months ago this behaviour would have triggered an automatic increase in credit limit.

The objective of a credit card is to get you addicted to debt and keep you there, so as to extract the maximum amount possible from your regular income stream.

It is a bit like the unholy alliance that allows the government to use the tobacco companies to do the same thing.

Call me cynical. But I would love to be proved wrong, so let us know what happens.

    John.

PS Having had a quick look at your previous postings, can I replace "Flower" with "Thorn";)
