Hello ive got a problem with the 3 internet service. I bought a monthy Internet add-on for five pounds four weeks ago, and recived a text at (8:40pm 9/6/08) informing me which was due to expire on "12:00 Midnight on the 9/6/08" The problem is i did not recive a text message informing me that my data allowence had run out, before the time and date above, and i had exceded my data allowence, and that i would be getting "charged one pound per megabyte i continued to download' The first i became aware was when i recived the first of a seris of text alerts at

19:17 you have spent £9.17 since the 01/06/2008

I then called an operator at 19:27 and asked why i had been charged £9.17 for internet services, and if my internet add-on had expired. the operator confirmed it had expired and i was being charged "one pound per megabyte i downloaded" i then explained that i hadent recived a text alert informing me that my internet add- had expired, and the operator sad that i dont ricive that kind of txt alert, which i explained i do as ive actuly still got some of the messages on my phone records. i then asked to speak to a mangaer and explained to him, and he also refused to belive me that these text alerts are sent, and siad there was nothing he could do about, while i was on the phone to the operator (for over therty minutes i was being charged one pound per megabyte) i recived all the text messages below

19:22 you have spent £5 on internet services 18:06 on 09/06,

19:27 just to let you know you have spent £5 on internet services since 15:34 09/06,

20:01 just to let you know you have spent £10 on internet services since 18:10 09/06.

20:01 just to let you know you have spent £10 on internet services since 18:10 09/06,

20:02 you have spent £20:42 on internet services since 01/06/2008,

20:02 you have spent £20:42 on internet services since 01/06/2008

In total ive been charged £20.42 on internet services. So i went to my local 3 store to try and speak to somone there, and they said there is nothing they can do, and to phone up the operator again.

Did your previous internet add ons expire due to data usage or time limit.?

Not sure which add on you've bought there?

I bought an unlimited internet add on from 3 for £5 a month. Never had any additional charges for this service.

You've clearly bought the a bad add on for what you need.

    Hope you get this sorted.
  • hello, Sooler and Ginny82, thank you's. Hi Sooler, it expired becase my data allowence had reached it's limit, and if you use the service yourself, you would have recived the text message warning you that "your add-on has expired and you will now be charged per megabyte you download" which the operator and manger claimed dose not happen. Hi Ginny82 when i purchesed the add-on you get four options

    1. dayly add-on
    2. weekly add-on
    3. monthly add-on
    4. broadband add-on

I had bought the monthly add-on, but dident recive a text alert warning me that it had expired and was then being charged £1 per megabyte. I must warn you that the (£5 monthly, Internet add-on) isen't unlimited! (if that's the one your purchesing )But is about two Gigabytes (Which is great, that's a lot of download data) so be very careful or you could end up in my possition! the manager wasent willing to give me a refund on the credit used, or take any responablity, and was denying responablity that they dont send such texts on a regular basis, which is untrue (They're Quick enough to remind you when you need a top-up). i dont want to contact, Otelo, or ICSTIS, just yet and was hopeing for an amicable soulution, (as a long serving, loyal customer, credited back my loss) but if need be i will, and also get a new phone and network. Can anyone please advise me what else i can do before i have to contact, Otelo, or ICSTIS, is it worth calling an operator again?
  • hi regarding my post about 3's monthly internet add-on. I had bought another one which ran out las'night, and recived the (internet has expired text alert) which they say i dont recive. so i phoned them Again, and as soon as the operator answerd i informed him that i was recording the call for legal reasons, and if he dident want to continue the call to say so. Once again i explained what had happend, he tryed to deny it and after 50 odd minutes (and speaking to his supervisor) he said, that i can record the call if i want but what i was doing was illeagle. I informed him that i made it perfectly clear, and that he did understand when he answerd and he had the choice to refuse taking the call, or suggest that i hang up. then as a goodwill gesture he said he would credit it me £5. I suggested that as a goodwill gesture (And for all my trouble) to ask the superviser if he would be willing to credit £10, (call credit and internet time) the operator said that was (His limit) so i asked to speak to the superviser and ask him myself and see (His Limit) but my battery ran out! So i called back spoke to another operator for about 40 mins, she finaly put me through to a supervisor, who then said he would credit me £5, i told him i was very dissapointed with the whole thing, but would accept. £15 is better than £20, At least i got somthing back. :T  :T

    Hi,
Was this as a Pay as you go user or pay monthly?
I have just bought a 3 payg sim and was planning to use the £5 monthly internet access add on using my phone as I modem. Has anybody done this?
    Thanks
  • hello El_mag, im PAYG, and using my phone as a modem, and £5 monthly add-on (is probly the best option). A Great money saver when it works, (which it usally dose) pain in the ... when it dosent. just be careful and keep an eye on the data allowence you are using, if in doubt phone them and ask how much Data allowence you have left. Good Luck!

It is not unlimited, the download limits and prices are -

    Internet Daily - 120MB - 50p
    Internet Weekly - 500MB - £2.50
    Internet Monthly - 2GB - £5.00
    Broadband Lite - 1GB - £10.00
    Broadband Plus - 3GB - £15.00
    Broadband Max - 7GB - £25.00

Although I have noticed that the daily bundle seems to be valid until midnight tomorrow, and the weekly bundle until midnight a week tomorrow. So it seems that you can get two days or eight days use.

Yes, it works fine. With the Internet add on, you are limited to accessing the web and email, but that is sufficient for most people. When you open up the browser on your laptop, then it will always pop up the 'Have you bought a top up' question. If you have, click yes, and away you go.

Make sure that you are connected to 3 (perhaps by changing your phone settings to UTMS only), otherwise I believe you will still get charged.

But don't tell them you are using it with your laptop, as it is probably against the T&Cs (or they will claim it is against the T&Cs even if it isn't) and there is no point in getting involved in an argument.
