The cheapest fat balls i've seen are 50 for £6.99 at the InStore (they have a web site but not an online shop so you'll need to go to your nearest branch). They had a huge stack of them last week and when i went back yesterday they only had 2 left and the manger said he didn't have another order for them. If anyone knows where i could get them even cheaper or similar price please let me know cos its £24.99 for 50 in Homebase and i simply can't afford that, especially as the starlings eat these like they are going out of fashion!

often piled high near the tills near the pet stuff, although shops are set out differentlyThe sign of a wasted life is a tidy house, Welcome to the chaos!0 -
B&M and Home Bargains have got them in bags of 6 for 49p (8p each)
Netto had them for 99p last week on BOGOF so still about 8p each.0 -
My local birds are notoriously fussy, and only eat the cheap stuff

However I have been buying bags of food from Lidl for £1.20 - you get six pouches, three fat balls and three lots of peanuts in alternation. The birds seem to love these if they're hung high enough - especially the bluetits and robins.0 -
have you ever considered making them yourself??? really easy to do - bit messy but very satisfying......'Normal' is a dryer setting.0

I tried that before using coconut shells, but none of the birds would touch them! The starlings are always happy to eat the regular stuff that comes in the coconut shells from the shops but wouldn't have anything to do with the home-made ones, which were just suet and seeds. Maybe that's why...

Firstly, I must apologise for the "fat balls" joke I was about to tell and managed to refrain myself Secondly, I must blame boredom at work for provoking such thoughts!!

Does anyone know how much the ones in Costco are? They come in a huge bucket, but I can't remember the price. Costco also do big sacks of wild bird seed for about £7 which is pretty cheep(sorry)!0

I make them up by mixing bird seed, sultanas/raisins and sometimes finely chopped up peanuts (so little birds dont choke  ) and then pour over the fat from the roast Ive had in the cooker......mix it all together and then put it into a cleaned out yogurt pot....leave to set - can put it in the fridge if want to sped it up.....and then when its properly set I cut it out of the yogurt pot and put it into one of those bags the onions/garlic/oranges come in...hang it in the tree and hey presto -word gets out lol and the feathered friends have a party in the tree down the back
