Are your meals filling enough? If you're trying to lose weight and eating meals of mainly veg, you could just be hungry?

Make sure every meals contain plenty of protein, some fibre-giving foods and a small amount of fat, all 3 help with fullness.

If you've cut down on pasta, rice etc, you could try re-introducing them. Perhaps your body is craving carbs in general and would be satisfied with some rice or pasta.

My tips (I have a crazy sweet tooth.)

    1. Provamel soya puds come in choc, dark choc, vanilla and caramel flavour. (Find in the allergy food section of your supermarket or Holland and Barret etc). They're properly sweet although lower in sugar than most fruit yoghurts, they also contain plenty of protein and omega 3 and 6. They also go really well with fruit. Good for nuking ice cream cravings and can be eaten as packed lunches.

    2. Frozen berries
Very low in calories and full of flavour. You could chop and freeze any fruit but I'm a bit lazy and enjoy the variety in pre-packaged frozen mixes. I get mine in Tescos and stock up when they're on offer. Also they go well with the above or real chocolate sauce.

    3 Nuts
Roasted hazlenuts and raw almonds are both naturally sweet and nutritious.

    4 Cinnamon Tea
Steep a bit of cinnamon wig in hot water for 3 minutes, take out the twig and drink. Very sweet and CALORIE FREE. Also try rooibos tea (Lidl sell rooibos and vanilla.) In summer I make big bottles of this and chill them.

    5. Dried fruit
Beware some dried fruit has added sugar and is higher in cals than chocolate! I like to buy extra-large raisins and snack on a few. Look in the whole food section of the supermarket. (I always count out dried fruit and nuts or I end up eating the whole pack.)

It's got nothing to do with my meals - it only happens once a week/a fortnight or so and one square of choc satisfys it. I eats loads of pasta and rice its just every now and then I get a sweet craving. Diet meals aren't just vegetables - have a look at the slimming world diet and you'll see what we mean.

Mmmmm I'm addicted to caramel Provamel soya puds, tho the choccie ones are lovely too. Added bonus is they don't have to be kept in the fridge but are nicer chilled if you're at home.

  • have you thought of going to the doctor about it? there might be a reason why you are craving sugar. Have you noticed anything else strange to you?

I would worry if I was craving sugar all the time, but I don't anymore. Its more likely I'd crave carbs like white bread than sugar (only because I can't have it ;) )

I usually fancy something sweet after I have eaten my main meal. I have a bit of malt loaf as it is low in fat but is really sweet and it feels like you are having some cake.
