My kids are ruining their Playstation games and we are ending up buying the same game once a year or so as they have scratched, bent, got food on etc etc the disc. Can I back them up so I don't have to keep buying them again?

you can, but it involves chipping the consoles so that you can play the backups.
this type of discussion is against the forum rules, so i can see this thread getting locked/deleted0 -
I think you'll just have to make a rule that if they ruin a game, it's tough luck!0

i don't see why you shouldn't copy your disc for back up purposes , if it's for your own personally use rather than you selling pirated copies .0

No, it's certainly a breach of copyright to chip and backup games in the same way that it is for films etc. A decent solution for you may be something like this: http://www.d-skin.com/0

It isn't about what's right or fair it's just that discussing something illegal jeapordises the forum which is why it's prohibited in the rules. And making copies of PS game discs is copyright infingement unfortunately whether it's for personal use or not."She is quite the oddball. I know it may not be moneysaving, but Game do a service where they can repair a disc, I think its £2.99 per disc or £5 for 2, they may even do discount for more than that.

Or you can buy CD repair kits etc. Even toothpaste and brasso is meant to work in some cases. Depends on how badly scratched it is but I've definitely managed to repair some DVDs in the past by buying a CD repair kit.

That is not necessarily true.
stphnstevey, look elsewhere on the web, I'm sure there will be plenty of sites dedicated to backing up Playstation games. It's unlikely to work, but have you tried asking the game company whether you can send in your old game and get them to send out a new one? Or, check out your local branch of Cex.“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” - Lao Tzu

It is in the UK if you haven't got explicit permission from the copyright holder (Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1988), only exception is computer programs. It's still actually even illegal to rip CDs to MP3."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Virtually ALL game companies offer a replacement media service. I had to use Codemasters service when my son managed to snap my Colin McRae Dirt DVD for the Xbox 360. They charged a whopping £2 plus postage.0
