    Hi Nickydee,
The NatWest regular saver. You mention the launch date as 25th July. This is a Saturday, is that correct?

    Thanks for the heads up.

Mid July 2008 I opened a 1 year 10% HBOS regular saver account with a 2% bonus if complying with t&cs.
£500 initially then £500 on first of month subsequently. (the second £500 only a fortnight after the first). That came to £6500 by this mid July and I have got just £350.14 interest.
I complied with the t&cs but do not think I have got the 12%. All the savings calculators that I can find only work for whole months. Can anyone please confirm one way or the other if that interest has been credited correctly.

Do you know if this a/c is still available? If not which is the best equivalant?

No it's not, at least not at 10% - the Halifax site will tell you the current rate.

Ive just opened the Halifax Regular Savings Account.

I have a question, the last line of the letter confiming the account states "If you wish to register for gross interest call into a branch....."

Do i go for this option?

    Thanks

Only if you don't pay income tax. They'll be wanting you to fill out an R85 form, and probably sell you some other products.

It's not a case of keeping clear, it's not an option. As a tax payer you're not entitled to be paid gross - tax is deducted at source for us mere mortals. (Bypassing the sales pitch is dead easy - just say it's not something you're interested in and sound like you mean it).

  • Hi,
I have just used the MSE regular savings calculator and have a question. If my wife and I drip feed into an RS from a joint account is it better to feed 2 accounts (one in each name) at £125 or one at £250 per month. I notice that the interest calculated does not double if you double the monthly feed figure, but assume that 2 separate accounts would attract 2x the interest. Am I right please?

There's no difference between 2 at £125 or 1 at £250. The interest is based upon the amount you pay in each month, so £250 would give twice the interest of £125.

Go for the simpler option - just one account, at £250 per month.
