She could become a Chief Constable, Footballer or Member of Parliament.0 -
It would be interesting to compare the outcome of the two cases.
What's the betting the footballer gets off more lightly than OP's friend?0 -

i've lost count of the millions of times I've said that - are you me....?:rotfl:
to OP
she will prob get the book thrown at her & trying to mitigate that by having peeps say how lovely she is will just irritate the judge - she would be better off just explaining how sorry she is & how now she is SOBER she realises just how dangerous her actions were .....can you tell I lost someone to a drink driver too - what if someone had been round that corner etc ..........
sorry I guess thats not what you wanted to hear ...........I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
when is she due in court:A VK :A0

She should go to prison like anyone else that drink drives. Any vehicle is a lethal weapon she could have killed someone turning into any road, deserves all she gets i can't abide drink drivers there is no excuse for it! she chose to get in her car instead of getting a taxi or making up with her friend.
When will this stupid government bring in a sensible rule about no alcohol whilst driving at all. I do not drink a drop if i have any inclination that i may drive and neither does my husband we have always gone by this rule. Stupid 17yr olds who don't know what they are drinking has nothing to do with it. I was 18 when i passed hubby was 20 and like i say have never had a drop to be on the safe side. If your old enough to drive your old enough to choose not to drink.0 -

The limit is unlikely ever to be reduced to nothing because some medical conditions (I believe) can lead to there being traces of alcohol on the breath so would give a positive result even if the person had not consumed any alcohol.
Saying that some countries do have a zero limit - Estonia, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary (if I remember correctly), whilst Norway and Sweden are very strict also (0.2g/l blood compared to the 0.8g/l blood allowed here). Most other European countries allow 0.5g/l blood, so our limit is much higher than the majority of other European countries. I'd like to see a much much lower limit and I do think our current stupidly high allowance it should at least be reduced to bring us in line with the majority in Europe.

I know of someone who was almost 3 times over the limit, on a provisional licence without a qualified driver and they only got banned for 2 years with a fine (don't know how much the fine was). For some reason they only got charged for the drink-driving, not driving with a provisional.
They were offered the chance of a shorter ban if they took a course but didn't take it because they would have had to pay for it.
If I remember correctly, your friend may also have to have a medical and liver function test to satisfy the DVLA that she's not a heavy drinker before they'll give her the licence back when the ban is finished.Dum Spiro Spero0 -

Surely a blood test and/or evidence of illness or medication being taken would soon sort that out?0 -
Sadly although this government claims to be tough on crime - it is just that, a claim with no substance.
It is forever bringing in tough new sentencing powers but then sends out directives to magistrates and judges restricting their use.
When you couple this with all the pathetic flipflop wearing do-gooders who always seem to have an excuse for peoples wrongdoing, then you are left with what we have now.
For most people who read this thread and have never seen what actually occurs at a magistrates court, make a point of going and seeing for yourself, you WILL be shocked.
The criminal justice system is just a game with criminals abusing the system, solicitors screwing the system and the CPS/police in the middle acting as a powerless referee.
Rant over - thank you!!!0
