Phone rings every 54th minute, once

Can anyone shed some light? Our house phone rings every 54th minute from about 10 o'clock in the morning, and it only rings once.
I have been intouch with BT they have checked the line and said there is no problem. We unplugged everything like they told us to and today it is still happening.
They suggest we replace our phones or call a bt engineer out which will cost £200 of which neither i can really afford.
Thanks

First and most obvious question ... does 1471 indicate that a call has been received? (Either with a number, or a "you were called at.." message.)

If it does, then it's nothing to do with your wiring, phones, or anything else, and there's no point in getting a costly engineer visit: There is somebody (or more likely, something) actually calling you.

Borrow another phone or buy one for less than £5 at Argos to rule out your phones.

Make sure it is pluged into the hidden internal socket and no other device is connected, if it still rings call BT out to listen.

You don't have a house alarm do you thats connected to the phone system?
