Rdwarr & Silentbob have said it.

LPG gas conversion would be the best thing to do, but as with all things the less you pay for your gas the more money you will save. The local price round here is 30p litre (I used to get mine for 23p), but it can be as expensive as 49p litre (probably more) so you have to do your homework b4 going for a LPG conversion, from who will do the conversion to how much your gas suppliers charge and everything inbetween needs investigating. Your boot should be huge in a car like that well able to hold a 100litre tank.

It's like some shops there are no prices displayed, if you have to ask (what the price is) you can't afford it. If you own one of these cars the price of fuel is irrelevant.

Fuel saving devices are a load of balls. there's one which lets a tiny amount of air into the vacuum pipe, and as it comes in it passes through a valve which makes a buzzzing noise - just so the driver knows it's there and can feel comforted that the little noise means he's saving fuel - yeah right! all it does is mess up your engine (by allowing a vacuum leak).
  • What about the magic 'potions' that you can put in.....
For example 'Greased Lightening' that is on Ideal World a lot.

Its pick of the say now. Does this stuff actually work? or is it just the old 'Red-ex' rebranded?

    thanks

NOI but if he can afford a BMW730i he should be able to afford to run it. If he can't heavens help him when it comes to servicing etc. If he wants better MPG he should buy a smaller engined car or drive with a less heavy right foot ;)

It might not just be a question of economic cost. There's also the cost to the environment that can be reduced by improving the MPG.

An LPG conversion would cost around £2000 and would take at least 6 months before the savings are noticeable .... my suggestion would be to cut your losses .... sell the car and get somethign more economical. If he is that dead set on a 7 series, get a diesel version (if one exists).

LPG conversions are suitable for some not suitable for others.
    Important factors are:
    mpg of the car
    Annual miles driven
    Price of LPG available
Length of time intended to keep the car.

an LPG conversion would cost between 800 - 1400 pounds The actual price (within this range) paid is largely irrelevant given that once done the driver will be saving 50 - 100 pounds a week. The factor used to determine which fitter you will use should not be price but quality of fit & aftersales service, by recommendation.
