Is my non-stick pan unsafe?

Hi,
I recently purchased a Teflon non-stick pan and I noticed today it has scratches that show the metal at the bottom of the pan......I recently watched saw something on telly saying non-stick pans can cause cancer. Is it time for me to discard my pan? I never used metal untensils etc in the pan so, cannot figure out why this has happened so soon. Advice from personal experience or otherwise will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Teflon is poisonous. If the Teflon is peeling then either return or discard it.

It's a personal choice thing I guess, but it's what I would do.
