internet still slow!

After probs with my router, usb light kept flashing and internet was very slow, ordered a bt homehub, got it today, put it on and internet pages were really fast in coming up

thought great thats the prob solved, logged in just now and has gone back to being really slow:mad:

using ethernet cable on homehub as im waiting for a usb stick to work with wireless

also a few of my programmes arent working, like hp adviser, bt help etc, says something is wrong with index.

I really dont want to phone up bt broadband help as they can never understand what im saying and vice versa

but if i have to then i will, just thought id ask here first for any advice?

thanks

Presumably you have been through all the anti-malware(virus and spyware) checks?, if not time to decide if you want to go along that route.
Indexing is a quick map of commonly used files so this may be indicative of a hdd fault.
If you want to find out fast, consider doing a backup of you're docs etc and using your system restore disk.

Have a look at this page http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/lowSNR.htm from the "Are there any tests I can do" part.
When you get your line stats as described the downstream SNR margin figure should ideally be above 6db.
You will also get your sync rate which gives your actual connection speed, router to exchange, which can give a clue to any problems.

Did you use a BT CD when you installed the BT hub? Has this changed your browser? It's best not to use ISP install CD's!

So post your line stats etc. as per post#4 It probably due to your remote location but the figures should prove this.

What is slow the internet or the PC? Spybot doesn't slow your PC down! Have you used ccleaner? here
