Best (Nearly)New Smallish Car for around £6000...? Opinions
Options
Hi
Me and me girlfriend are looking to upgrade our dated Fiesta for something about newer and a bit nicer.
Ideally we're look for something that isn't brand new (1 or 2 years old), thats quite economical (Diesel?), cheap to tax and insure and nice looking. Not sure about whether 3 or 5 doors but would like a bit of boot space.
So far we've narrowed it down to some of the following:
Renault Megane (GFs choice not mine)
Vauxhall Corsa (new style)
Vauxhall Astra (new style)
Fiat Grande Punto
Peugeot 207 (hatchback, new style)
VW Golf
So hopefully you get the picture of what we're after. Any advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Adam

What about the new Fiat 5oo? Might still be a bit expensive. (and probably too small) But looks great.0

Perouda kelissa?
Citroen C1 or C2
Renault clio
Thats probably all your going to get for 6k especially 1-2 years old, maybe going a few years older say 4 or 5 years may get you more for your money.0 -
Well I suppose the budget could be stretched a bit if there was something really good for the price...0

1 year old Fiesta with the TDCi engine.0

VW Polo or Golf everytime

Watch out for ex daily rental & courtesy cars, as some of these late registered models you mention are a favourite choice, for these uses. So do ensure you are able to confirm eho owned & more importantly - WHO DROVE IT!
You might also consider buying in auction, as the cars will still be under warranty, but £500 - £800 cheaper than showroom price. If you do want to go this route. www.british-car-auctions.co.uk & look for centres holding Motability sales & you'll have a good choice.
Also check This WeeksDeals page on www.homestjohn.co.uk for up to the minute GENUINE deals on loads makes n models.
From your list, Punto (it's really a Corsa underneath the badge) will give best value for £$£$, but the anti Fiat brigade won't want it once you need to sell on again!!0 -
Hi adamtoyne!
I'm currently looking for around about the same as you!!
I have £8K max (or a 0% deal!)
I have test driven a Fiat Grande Punto at the weekend and that's my fave so far! I looked at the new Corsa last night -fab outside a little tacky inside. i also looked at a Ford Fiesta Zetec Blue with the sony stereo fitted-fab gadgets but the car itself isn't anything amazing. i had also thought of a Peugoet 207/307 and a Nissan Note which I have gone off a bit now.
Please tell me how you get on and any great deals you spot!
I have also noticed that online prices seem to be a lot cheaper than dealerships, I don't know if anyone has any comments on buying online?
Good luckNewbie Comper

Sounds like we have similar tastes. Like I've already said the one's im interested in other than the ones you've said are the Megane, Golf and Peugeots. Hopefully do some test driving soon!
Not too keen on the fiesta myself although the new one coming out this year looks great. A bit out of my price range though...0 -
How about a Skoda Fabia? You'll probably get more for your money than a Golf - but may depreciate quicker than a Golf.0
