Car hire in Majorca??

Hi....just need a small car for a week.....What about insurance? what do i need to be careful of?.....Do i need to pay "Excess".....also ....in the past I fill up before leaving ....only to get a bill for not returning with a full tank of petrol....this is because i use petrol on the journey back to car hire firm!! what can i do? Thanks ian
