TomTom XL GB which one?

I want to buy my mum a TomTom for her birthday and have been looking at all the different models.
I thought XL would be best as she is of an older generation
She only needs GB
Can somebody tell me if there is much difference between the older one XL regional and the 'NEW' XL Regional. I guess the newer one has more upto date maps. Any other major changes.
I have read that the XL falls off the windscreen
Finally this is really stretching the budget so I want to get the best one for her but not pay anymore than I need to.
