I've found another company offering this service called "One Banking" The same £12.50 a month fee, and £30 setup.. Not great, But slightly cheaper that the other one if this is something people want to go for.

The only other plus point I can see for this company is that it also comes with Online Banking whereas I don't think the others do.

This is excellent and quite cheap to use too, only down side is theres a min purchase of 20quid credit and a cost to transfer balance back to your account, works well though I use it to pay subscription to an online game I play.

How cheeky that they charge you £1.00 for a text message if you don't have enough funds and give £0.50 to charity. I'll choose what charity I decide to give to, if and when and how much. I think that is condescending and also they do that 2 days before a dd debit is due. How do they know you won't be paying money onto it that day??

I have a cashplus account and at £4.95 per month unlimited use, no minimums etc, I find it excellent value. I was paying more than that for the privilege of my bank account before BR (although it was premium banking of course!).

    Hi All,
First of all thanks for all the advice, found it very useful as I just got declared bankrupt, and found myself in a bit of situation with the banks…
Anyway, extra direct; whilst I don’t disagree with anything you guys said here, I must admit they were very quick and didn't give me any hassle over my situation, set up my account super fast and customer service was excellent. I think we all could do with that…the start up fee was actually £30, then £12.50 per month. I think it is a rip off but when you are in the situation where other high street banks will just not even talk to you, I don’t think you have much choice. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to go to high street as I needed to change my salary details within 3 days and extra direct has done it for me…
I will definitely try the suggestions from the forum though once I have calmed down and my life got back to normality.
    Thanks again!

ps just reviewed the prepaid365, and it is the same company as extra direct, which means they are both part of natwest etc.... etc....and so the rules shoudl be exactly the same.

Grave robbers if you ask me. Preying on the vulnerable ie the bankrupt. It's funny that natwest won't touch us with a barge pole for a basic bank account but are obviously canvassing us for these prepaid card accounts which are filling their coffers. I just hope that with current times being what they are my beloved co-op will extend their services to bankrupts because I for one will stick with them (current account & savings account now, hopefully mortgage in the future:o).
