Any change at all of reclaiming PPI?

in Credit cards
My husband signed up for an MBNA credit card whilst at a bike show around five years ago - he just had to - it had a nice photo of a bike on it!!
The card has around £3500 balance at the moment, and we have been paying PPI ever since the card was received.
I have been reading these boards and was interested in the PPI reclaiming discussion. I asked my husband WHY he chose the PPI option. He said that the salesman verbally told him that the card had a good introductory offer (not quite sure what - apart from the photo of the bike on the card!) and that the card was not allowed to be issued to him unless he took the PPI choice.
I've got tons of paperwork to do at the moment for other things, and can't face yet more if there is absolutely no chance at all of any return. Can anyone tell me if there is the slightest possibility of this being 'mis-sold'??
Hope someone can help!
