Credit Card to pay car insurance!

I have never had a credit card before but a friend suggested getting one to pay years car insurance in full as the repaympents are cheaper than the monthly repayments from the car insurance company if you get a card with 0% interest.
Please help me and tell me if this is possible as i could really do with saving a little money every month.
Also what are the best cards to get as i dont really understand all the terms and conditions!
thank you

You need a 0% on purchases card. see www.stoozing.com/purchases.php for a list of the current best offers. However, because you've never had a credit card before you may find you are rejected, as you have no credit history. Maybe your bank offers a credit card?

Be sure to read your renewal notice next year because many insurance companies will automatically renew (the dreaded Continuous Payment Authority [CPA]) using the original card details if you do not cancel beforehand.

utility bills do not usually show up as a "credit account" on credit reports.
But your loan will and so will a contract mobile phone if you have one.

If you have paid your loan on time then you will have good history and should be able to get a card. As already said just be careful to make sure you cancel your insurance if you don't want to renew at the end of the year (try to get a written acknowledgement). Many insurance companies jsut automatically renew and if you've paid by card they will just take the premium.
