well it seems i might need to purchase a small mig welder to patch the floor on our old car

its not something i will use often at all

i was wondering what your opinions are on whats the minimum spec i can get away with

i see you can get gasless migs with a live torch fairly cheap..would it get the job done or no

Personally for the use it's going to get, I'd hire one from your local plant hire place. You'll get a far better welder than you'd get by buying one and hire is very cheap. Gasless MIGs are, IME, a waste of time and you'd be better using an Arc welder if you're going that route. Arc welding isn't that hard to learn.

Aldi sometimes have welders in their special offers for £100 but don't have a clue whether they're any good or not. Hiring like Conor says is probably better,

Utter rubbish. Try turning it down and using the right sized rods.

try to hire a kempi gas mig welder, these are very easy to use and give brilliant welds.
arc welding on a car is a bit harder for a novice,if you arent the best welder use a gas mig and your welds will look pretty good and be strong.

http://www.hss.com/c/1014503/Mig-Welders.html is one place I know of. Probably better value to hire for a weekend.
