Loudspeakers

Options
I have connected 6 ohm speakers to a TV, even though the instruction book says 8 ohm speakers should be used. They are very good speakers. Is this OK or have I read somewhere there is a fire risk??
Nice to save.

If their impedance is too low then you risk blowing the output chip - more so at higher volumes when you will get more current dumping through the speakers. Some are more lenient than others, but I don't know the set that you have. You should definitely worry if they were 4 ohm.

You could wire them in series which will then give you 12 ohms unless of course you have a stereo tv. This will be very safe, but not quite as loud. If you have stereo and don't want to run the risk then buy a couple of high wattage 2 ohm resistors and put these in series. These don't cost a lot (30p?), whereas replacing your sound chip might.

If its a decent telly, then fix the problem.
