Hello, after working solid for over 4 hours this evening I have solved a problem that some owners may have with the Asus Eee PC WiFi system, searching the web found many similar problems with many different suggestions on how to solve them, however none of those worked for me so I set about solving the problem my self.
Their was an issue with the Eee PC WiFi driver that caused it to hang in a "Pending" state after trying to unsuccessfully obtain an IP address from the router DHCP server, even forcing an IP address would not solve the problem so the only solution was to connect the "hard line" and download an updated driver via the "Install new software" menu in the settings panel, make sure that you download all available security and other updates while you are installing the new WiFi driver software, when each module has installed it will ask you to restart but just click no and when all modules are installed then reboot the Eee PC. When the machine comes back online you should have no further trouble with WiFi.

If you don't need to update any item then the advice at www.eeeuser.com seems to be not to bother - there are several issues with Asus updates and also due to the file structure the updates don't overwrite or replace the existing files and you will soon run out of space. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

You could keep your machine updated and save the valuable space by using an image from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=217407

@ debbie - if your eeepc is running the Xandros operating system then a guide to wi-fi can be found here - http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:beginners_guide#set_up_a_wifi_internet_connection_using_the_network_icon

In which case try the instructions on the previous link and let us know how you get on.

If you have a new computer then the operating system on your eeepc is Xandros which is a version of Linux.

Hi Norman, plug the Asus 701 into a wired network port on your internet router with a CAT 5 Patch cable, then once you are online you can download the updates for the EEPC 701.
