I have put a plan for my current bathroom
on the pic on the left there is hidden space which is bricked up -
im thinking it may be structural??? has anyone seen this in a tenement building
also regarding the plumbing on LHS there is a pipe leading from the
toilet to the back wall in the new plan the toilet is a bit further away
but the pipe should only have to be extended straight a bit? again does that
look feasable???
any idea roughly what it would cost??

Impossible to answer most of your questions without looking properly.

If the toilet is on the same line and not very far away then you should get away with it. You need a drop as well as the line it runs on, but it doesn't look like it's moving too far for it to be a massive problem.
I'd get a structural engineer first off to let you know if that wall is structural. I wonder if the really odd layout is just to give the bathroom a window or whether they've had to work around the wall as well
But your plan looks so much better than the existing layout!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Hi Jq
Isnt the S.V.P inside that void ?
Because even if its not structural you would still have a problem with achieving that layout.
What floor is it on ?
I would try and gain access to the property above or below you to see if they have a different layout that would be a good indicaton of whether or not there load bearing.0 -
I would imagine the strange shape it taking the soil pipe and possibly other plumbing up and down the building, could be electrics too. Is there many flats in the building. Try knocking on the wall and see if it sounds hollow (i.e. been boarded up) or if its dull then probably bricked up. If its boarded it is more likely to be soil, plumbing etc, and it is unlikely this could be moved.0

i went down and had a look at my neighbours below and they have the same floor plan as mine...
i knocked on the wall and it is a mixture of block and board!
im startin to get worried i cant do anything....
there is a old central heating system with the cold tank in the current
bathroom on the ceiling..could the void possible hold anything to do with this
central heating system??
is there anywhere i can get hold of original plans??0 -
i menat to say it is a scottish tenement with 3 storeys and i am on
the second storey. there is about 8 flats in the block0 -

does this mean the soil pipe?
there is a pipe coming out of the toilet going to the wall it has been
boxed over and tiled over0 -
I assume SVP = soil vent pipe? And yes I would guess that it goes into the void that your talking about. Basically I think you are unlikely to be able to remove it because of this as it will be running to other floors. It is possible that you may be able to reduce the size of the void containing the soil pipe, it just depends what else is in there. If you are feeling brave, I would get a hammer and make a small hole in the area that has been boarded, if you can get a camera in there then you can take some pics, and you might be able to work out what is in there. Of course then you will have a hole in your wall! :rolleyes:0
