In short no. JSA is if you are actively seeking work, which he wouldn't be. As for help with the course, need to contact you LEA, if its his first degree, they will contribute towards tuition fees, and assess his eligibility for student loan etc. Also get a H1 form from GP/chemist, to send away for a H2 form for free prescriptions, dental care etc. As for other benefits, ask anywhere, i.e. shops, cinema, many do special rates on production of student ID, and those that dont generally sometimes do if you ask

the only full time students who get any form of benefits help are lone parents. but if he's doing a 3yr degree f/t then he'll prob get student loan, some help with fees etc etc ask for a leaflet from council?

what he is entitled to will also be different depending on if he claims as an independent student or not.
If he can show he has financially supported himself (via benefits or work) for a minimum of 3 years he should claim for means testing against his own income. if he has been on benefits for most of this time, it is likely his fees will be fully paid for by you LEA, and he will recieve full loan entitlement.
If not he will have to claim as a dependent and they will take into account your income, which will mean he probably will recieve less help.
Universities also operate grants for low income students, which he will apply for once he has been accepted and enrolled.
