How much spending money for 2weeks in Mexixo??

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questons.....hope someone can help......

Me and my partner are going to Mexico in August, for 2 weeks all inclusive but I really don't have a clue about how much money to take?

We want to do alot of day trips out and I deffinitly want to swim with the dolphins ad we will probably be going to a few clubs on some of the nights (not every night though).

Has anyone been and does anyone knoe how much to take?

Also do we take all US dollars? Pesos? Travellers cheques?

Also my partners passport runs out in december this year, do you have to ahve 6months left on it? will we have to renew it?

Any help would be appreciated....

Thanks x

the trips can be expensive so personally I would hire a car and do it yourself, a car for $70

entrance to xel-has is $60 per person and that's for the all inclusive deal which gives you all drinks and food etc, to swim with the dolphins is extra, to do this with the organised tour was twice that cost and it was only 5 mins away from where we were staying, even if we got a taxi there it still would be loads cheaper than the organised excusion

mexico is cheap and there are cash points everywhere in the resorts to I wouldn't take much money and just withdraw as and when you want it

driving is great fun, safe adn easy, it gives you the freedom you need to really experience the place, one not to miss is coba, it's the only temple you can climb and is in the jungle, it's fab

have a great time and I reckon that if you take £500 which should be plenty and like I said, you can get more out if you need it but you can also pay for trips by card too

heading to Cancun now in 2 weeks. Staying at Riu Cancun - all inclusive for 10 days. We're taking £500 worth of Pesos - and a credit card as backup, but honestly really hoping the pesos will keep us going, as we're not really clubbers and not going to be doing too much in way of excursions. Doing the dolphin swim also at Dolphin Discovery on Isla Mujeres. Other than than not much planned. Perhaps take the bus to Playa del Carmel, spend a bit of time there and maybe then take the ferry to Cozumel.

btw, regarding Dollars and Pesos, it's a discussion that seems to get up peoples noses on tripadvisor :), but we finally decided on Pesos, because if we took dollars to spend, once spent any change given would be given in Pesos - and we don't want the hassle of looking after two sets of currency. The peso also gives the better exchange rate, even though theres not much in it between it and the dollar at the minute.

So if we took between £1000-£1500 for both of us, would we have enough to do the day trips and manage to go out on a night etc?

I just don't want to not take enough so we can't freely do what we want etc.

    Thanks for your replies x

It also depends what hotel you are staying at - We stayed at the Moonpalace which was a super all inclusive, this meant that we could not only drink at all the bars in the hotel for free 24hrs a day we could also go to any sister hotels in cancun - we also had a fridge in our room which was filled daily full of beer, wine and soft drinks - and the best bit for me was the optics in the rooms with vodka, whiskey, taquila and brandy. hic hic.

We're going to Cancun in September and it says within our paperwork that passports have to be valid for 6 months from your return date. Don't know if this is specific to Mexico, or just a general comment. It should say within your booking paperwork what requirements there are.
If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.
