What you are describing does not sound like discrimination to me.
Your friends cirucmstances are unusual and are not catered for by automatic software, it's as simple as that.

I find myself in he same posistion with house insurance.
My requirements are not catered for by the software so I have to call up.
It's makes shopping around a lot harder but no-one has discriminated against me, it's simply the case that software programs cannot be written to take account of 100% of cases.

I know how your friend feels as it's annoying but I work in software and I know it would be impossible in practice to do what he wants.
Technically it would be possible but the expense would be huge.
e.g. let say 90% of the population are catered for with 10% of the effort, then in practice that is what companies will do.

If you could give me all the scenarios then I could write a program to do 90% in 10% of the time (cost and effort).
The other 10% of the scenrios would take 9 times as long.
So you wouldn't pay me to do that bit.
It's as simple as that.
