Also, the OP asked several times that we stopped criticising him or his son - they both already recognised the issues.

But, what happened next? Time after time after time people posted how bad the kid is, how he can resolve it by being good, and so on. The OP didn't ask for these resolutions, folks. Can we all try to read and understand before we throw in a diatribe about irresponsibility? The OP did not ask for advice on that topic.

    1) The problem was that the OP *didn't* recognise the issue in any way shape or form...which leads on to point 2:

    2) The advice the OP was after was how to get their kid off paying back the money he'd taken. What you may have mistaken for criticism or judgement was us merely pointing out, in the spirit of the forum (doing all we can) that it isn't going to happen.

I don't really think that asking a stupid question, refusing to give more detail and further refusing to listen to reasonable answers is in the slightest in the spirit of the forum. It's a waste of our time and takes our attention away from people who might actually want or need help. In short, it's the behaviour of a troll...

Well, it seems to me that the OP was asking about how banks decide to advance loans. He mentioned his son is 18, that he had no regular income and his banking behaviour wasn't top notch.

    ...

It would be really, really helpful to the OP if folks could read his first post again and respond appropriately.
Ok, lets give them the benefit of the doubt.

I agree that it sounds odd that the bank lent an 18 year old with no regular income and non-top notch banking behaviour such a large amount of money.
One thing that would have swayed their decision is what the 18 year old told them during the application form.

If the OP can tell us this then we can proceed with further help.

It would be really, really helpful to the rest of us 'folks' if the OP would answer questions with a straight answer instead of saying its 'irrelevent'!

Cameron flounced anyway....and we all finished our popcorn the other night.
  • He did not have regular payments into the bank and did not have a good track record of banking behaviour. As he was unable to make payments for the loan the bank took them out of his current account until that reached an o/d of about £ 800 then they transfered that onto the loan account. Yes it just gets worse !

Hehehe, what a clown. Seems the OP thinks that the bank should take over parenthood were he left off.

My parents wouldn't get involved with something like this, time the boy grew up a bit. Shouldn't he be posting for advice or does his Daddy get him out of all of his problems??

I am slightly more troubled in that Cameron, is referred to as a man and a woman on this thread.

Well if Cameron is a man, I do hope that he hasn't been breast feeding.

I think when I read the posts of a crazy irrational person, I just assume they're female ;)

I assumed it was a woman as it sounded like a molly-coddling mother.

But I guess Cameron is a boy's name? Or is it unisex?
Just noticed they signed their name "C R Milne" on the first post. Could this be the famous Christopher Robin Milne, from the Winnie-the-Pooh stories??

Just wanted to mention that I also had a personal loan at 18 and I made every payment on time, each month. I never missed a payment and every penny was paid back without any help from my parents.

lv1109 - Ditto, got a £5500 loan at 18 to buy my car, paid it off in two years. It's not that difficult is it?

The Money was obviously spent on drugs....... at least ONE of the parents has been smoking something illegal (they do say children copy the parents!).

LOL Chris! I'm glad I wasn't the only one secretly thinking that!
