Problem with my Ford Focus Sport

Options
Took my car to the garage at some unearthly hour this morning as the automatic gearbox is playing up.

It sometimes won't let me put it into park - if I cannot get it into park I cannot take the keys out, since that is the way automatics work.

The garage can't find anything wrong with it confused.gif

Say that it has to have the fault when I take it in confused.gif

The car is 14 months old.

So now I am no further forward!

I am worried that I am going to get stuck somewhere

I am disabled and the car was bought on the Motability Scheme

Anybody got any ideas on the way forward please?

The response from the Ford garage is that I can put the car into neutral to take the keys out - erm no I can't, it has to be in Park.

They haven't even checked the automatic fluid level since the car was services last December

Ring motability operations and tell them what ford garage said. there is a proper disabled forum called yourable.com they would advise you much better i think.

Sounds like a icky microswitch on the Park position.

Most auto gearboxes are "sealed for life" - that's a manufacturers term rather than mine. On some cars the ATF is shared with the power steering reservoir and can be checked.

Maybe next time you are out you should call Ford Assist so that they can diagnose, recover and get your dealer to deal with the fault.

    Thanks for the input.

    Will see what happens.

Will phone Motability tomorrow when they open and see what they can do to help me out

From a helpful person on youreable -

It is caused by the little torx screw that holds the top of the gear stick not being seated correctly (or being too tightly screwed up). It is located to the front of the gearstick about 3 cms from the top.

If you can get a very small Torx screwdriver (or even a small allen key), leave it in the car to try adjusting the screw when this occurs (I ended up leaving the screw out for a time and this cured the problem totally so you could try that as well).

Ford were meant to be issuing a Technical Servicing Bulletin (TSB) about this exact problem as it is a fairly common fault.

Pity the Ford garage hadn't got a clue about this.

Will phone motability later on this morning

Well it looks like your on your way to getting problem sorted, garages sometimes don't want to offer help and to say they did not know what was wrong is bad on their part. i,d tell them off if i were you.
