500Gb + HDD wanted

im after a good 500Gb or bigger external HDD seen loads around £55 to £70 are there any better than others or is it personal choice?
Also, a 1Tb costs roughly the same as 2 500Gb, id guess it safer to buy 2 x 500Gb as if one fails the other is still in use?
