Perhaps they are experimenting with one card brand to see how it is received.

Tell them loud and clear or we may see more of it in future!
At least two cards - they are charging £25 on the Beyond card:

Got £15 fee letter for MBNA Platinum Plus!
But says "your account is regularly considered for promotional interest rate offers"

That's it then, I have a Platinumn MBNA with an £18K limit on it plus a MBNA BMI air miles card that I got my arm twisted to sign up for in an airport lounge, and I am an old age pensioner shows how easy it is to get credit of these gangsters.

Owe about £60 for petrol on the Platinum due for payment on the 9th so payment will include a covering letter telling them to close both accoiunts and stick their cards up their backside and set fire to them
  • If you have other MBNA card why not transfer your credit limit to one of them and THEN close the West Ham cc . That way you do not lose your overall credit limit.

Great minds think alike Systemaddict! I was going to pay off the balance with my Egg card then ask them to transfer the West Ham limit to one of my other MBNA cards before closing it.The question is which one? From other people's posts it seems they are applying annual fees to both Platinum Plus and Beyond so it looks like its going to have to be A+L.

I had one of these MBNA cards not that long ago - don't laugh - for Leicester City. I figured there was far more in it for MBNA than the club so I ended up ditching it.

I'd rather go into the club shop and contribute towards my club that way, not being a season ticket holder and not being able to go to every game.

My opinion is that these MBNA cards aren't worth it in any case, except maybe for the introductory offers.

Anyone who owes on an MBNA credit card should take a look at this and take a stiff drink.

Personally, I think that people would be far better off making an assessment based on what they read from UK based people on websites like this, The Motley Fool, the stoozing website etc. I say this for 2 reasons. Firstly a website called https://www.badcreditcards.org, by its very name, is not going to give anyone a balanced view is it ? Secondly, it is a US website with US based feedback which may or may not be relevant to how MBNA operate in the UK.

I'd guess MBNA are just operating good business practice & tidying things up.

If you don't use the account, there's no point in the costs of maintaining it, being covered by other account holders, indirectly (minimum though it might be)

I have 3 "dormant" accounts with them and so far they have not applied a fee to those.
The card with the £9400 balance is the one they are trying to charge this fee for.I am fortunate in that I am able to pay this off and close the account before the fee is charged.Others may not be so and it is these people that they are praying on.
