switched to Eon and I didn't reques this

I recevied a letter from Eon (on friday) thanking me for switching to them. I was, or should be with British Gas. This is for both electric and gas supply

I phoned Eon immediately (found a free phone number) and they said I had either completed an online form or been approached by someone in Tescos?

Neither of these are true and when I complained they then looked further into details and said I had answered a phone call after completing a survey This is also untrue, mailny as I am out of the house from 7am to 8pm and never answer my phone - I return calls due to the level of telesales calls.

Anyway they said they should be able to cancel it if it was withing the period of time from the original joining up date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I advised I would be complaining to trading standards over this. I also asked for full details as to how this has happened and what details do they have. They said a manager would call me monday (today) but no call recevied yet.

After speaking next to British Gas they advised they had no details of the switch but that it can take a few weeks to come through. They said they cannot block it but have put a note on y records to call me if this hapepens.

I don't knwo if this is a coincidence but about 3 weeks ago I had someone who came and did a gas and electric reading

Any one else eperienced this and what did you do?

    Hi,

was the letter in your name? Did it have any other details on it? Tel. number, mobile number? bank details.

It is most likely going to have been a dodgy salesman and if a complaint was raised on your account this will be followed up by the complaints team.

If you do not recieve a callback today I would phone up again on the 0800 number and asked to be transferred through to the complaints dept who will be able to get this sorted for you straightaway- they have the necessary contacts with the salesteam and can pass feedback and initiate disciplinary action.

Definitely a dodgy salesman then. Make sure a complaint has been raised on 'your' account so feedback can be given.

Advise them that you have been Erroneously Transferred from British Gas if they cannot prove you signed up. This will then send you back to BG as if you had never left.

  • Update, to be fair to Eon they have now dealt with this.

Got several visits from a nice chap who brough an electronic gadget which had the signature on, but it most certainly was not mine or partner's. We showed them various things with our sigs on and they agreed. They did an investigation which took a few weeksand said the guy who had done the door step sign up visit had since left the company. They did say they had spoken to him prior to his leaving and the description he gave of the flat was nothing like ours as he mentioned loads of porcalain dolls and my partner and I are def not the porcelain doll type.

The chap investigating wouldn't say why the salesrep had left but we got the impression something wasn't right.

We then got a letter from them saying that as they could not tell if this was a mistake or fraudently done they would have to treat it as fraud and that they would be sending a cheque for £200.

We got the check, cleared with no further probs.
