How to Clean Solid Wooden Floors

We have just moved house and all of the downstairs has solid wooden flooring installed. It's a lovely floor although a little uncared for. The grime that came off on a dry cloth was unbelievable:eek: .

Somebody has told me that machines can be hired to clean the floors. Is this true or does anybody have any tips for cleaning this surface?

Thanks

Solid wooden floors are defintley worth saving. Im sure your aware of how much they would cost if you tried to replace them.

You could try to sand top few mm of with those large belt sanders. (kind of like a vacuum cleaner size and easy to use.) Then apply a few coats of polish. Companies like HSS ,travis perkins are nationwide and rent those types of machines for as short or long as you like. There not that expensive either. You could hire one for under £100 for a few days. It does get a bit messy even though they have dust extraction on them but the floor will definately apppreciate it.

    Hope that helps.
