Amserve website for Amstrad emailer

My mum's been using an Amstrad emailer for a few years now, but recently it packed up and we got her a new one from Ebay. Had to get her a new email address with it and it took a few days to 'settle down' as it were. Until then she could send emails fine, and we could sometimes reply to them, and sometimes send her 'new' emails, but about half the time anything sent to her was bouncing back.
Now the problem has started again - she can send fine, but our replies are bouncing back, or sometimes not even bouncing back but she's not getting them. Error message says it's a permanent fatal error with her email address.
It is possible to look at her email on www.amserve.com and again, initially I could do that. But now it says "Can't contact mail host".
Do I take it from this that their server is down? Knowing that they've discontinued selling emailers I wondered if maybe the whole thing has now gone belly up? Does anyone know?
It's very frustrating because she's very deaf so can't use the phone easily, we're not sure if she will cope with the extra bells and whistles available on a computer, whereas the emailer has been right at her level.
If anyone can help I'd be very grateful ...

I've just spent the evening trying to do exactly the same thing - unblock my mum's emailer via the web but finding the same 'can't contact mail host' message. I'm going to Essex tomorrow so may just divert to Brentwood to stop in at Amstrad...0

PS I forgot to mention that her emailer can still email out so at least part of the system's working...her incoming email stopped last week around 6 June.0

Seems from June this year the emailers won't email any more...Dear Amstrad e-m@iler user
We are sorry to advise that as a result of operational changes we are no longer able to provide the full e-m@ailer service and therefore a number of the features of your e-m@ailer unit will cease to function.
All units will receive a configuration change between 30th June 2011 and 14th July 2011 which will mean that the following features (if present on the model of e-m@ailer you own) will no longer be available after this configuration change has taken place:
- Email (Please note that you will still be able to access and view any emails stored on the e-m@ailer prior to the end date.)
- Any registration alterations
- SMS
- Amsurf internet
- Games download (Please note that you will still be able to access and play any games stored on the e-m@ailer prior to the end date.
Anything deleted will be irretrievable and time limited games will expire.)
- Ringtone download (Please note that you will still be able to access any ringtones stored on the e-m@ailer prior to the end date.
Anything deleted will be irretrievable.)
- All dial up services (e.g. tarot, pranks etc.)
- Copymail
- Automatic setting of the date and time (Please note you can still set this manually.)
- Internet access to your email account
- After care telephone support
As a result of these changes your e-m@ailer will no longer make daily calls to the service to check for emails.
The following features will still function after this time:
- Video calls (from E3 to E3 videophones)
- Telephone
- Caller display (if you subscribe via your telephone provider)
- Voicemail
- Address book
- Printer settings (with compatible printers)
- Calculator
Please do not reply to this email. If you have any questions or concerns please contact our customer support team by telephone on 01277 208213 or by emailing emailer@bskyb.com before 30th June 2011.
Kind regards
Stephen Nash
BSkyB Limited
So at least it will then work as a phone and no daily 20p call.

Looks like the change has been made and the services menu now just list the options that work.
When the unit now dials for email it would appear to now dial an invalid number 01632960
Typically before if the unit failed to check for email for several days it would stop working so I am not 100% sure this bodge will work.
I would have thought new software would have been required rather than a configuration change which seems to arrive piggy backed on an email collection call.

It also looks like because the call fails that it redials it every thirty minutes.
EDIT:
It tries twice at thirty minutes apart and then two hours later...

I bought one of these Amstrad E3s' to replace my old model, unfortunately the retail store and Amstrad failed to tell their customers that most of the functions that attracted us to the product in the first place was going to be discontinued. This item is not fit for purpose.
Alan Sugar has made millions out of this product. It is a shame he has let us down. Software replacement or links to outside providers loowing us to use the E3 could have been very useful and he could have made more money long term. Perhaps the clue to his morals is blinded by his sights on politics. You have to be crooked to join that club. He has started well, it seems
'RIP OFF BRITAIN' coins a phrase - I hope these business people take note..... loyalty, morals, are also important!:money:Britain, England, United Kingdom should mean something.0
