British Gas Price Cap till 2010, "Whats the catch"?

Options
 Hello forum one and all

I have recently had an agent from British gas knock on my door trying to convince me to swap back to them, this is backing up the ad's on telly, saying people are flooding back. Now Im a bit synical about this as they are saying It will be capped until 2010! Whats the catch? They gotta make money some way or another, is it going to change somewhere down the line where the customer is going to get stiched up? Or is it a good deal for duel fuel?
I have been told I have until Friday 30/09/05 to decide if I want to change over as the agent will be moving to another area, is this right?
I'm a mushroom that needs some light!

Your thought's please on this?

    Hi

If you check this thread by Martin http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=96036 it should explain everything, If there is one thing I hate, its being pressured into something on the doorstep. I always find that in itself to be a danger sign, never ever let them talk you into doing anything and ask for confirmation of the deal in writting. You normally find you never recieve anything!

The catch is it is not a "capped offer" it is a price freeze, so more or less like a fixed mortgage so the price won't come down or go up.

Plus if prices fall and you want to move it will cost you £75 penalty fee.

I bet the man on the doorstep didn't explain that !??!?

If you do a search on this board, there are a few threads about this - wholesale gas prices are forecast to fall considerably in 2007. How convenient for BG...
  • Thank you for reading and advice, Im not in so much of a rush to move and I don't like hard sell tactics full stop!!

    Cheers

I thought the door to door thing was all sorted now - still not letting you have full info, it seems!!

We're with BG for both, with free off peak/weekend onetel calls, seems a reasonable deal - CURRENTLY!!

We'll see about switching, when Martin suggests - certainly WON'T go for a fixed price, with a premium & penalty though!!

BG did offer a deal, a few years back, which was fairer - not to increase if you agreed to stay with them, for a year. or whatever it was - now that WAS worth the deal!!

I work for BG - If you are unhappy with any selling tactics, please get the representatives name and make a complaint.

As for making a decision by 30/09/05 for this price freeze offer - not true. This offer is still available online. https://www.house.co.uk
