Lost Keys

Options
We moved into our new house last week and there doesn't appear to be any keys for the UPVC window locks or for the metal garage door.

We have asked the estate agents to ask the sellers but don't hold out much hope.

Is there a solution and if so, how costly?

Thanks

My OH lost the keys to double glazing that goes onto our juliet balcony. So ill be interested if anybody provides information different to mine.

I was told by 2 different people in the trade whom i know that the unit would have to be replaced. I dont know if my door is any different to normal double glazing but for some reason they couldnt replace the lock.

It seems odd that they would design something in a way where the locks couldnt be replaced without replacing the door my only thought is it's some kind of security feature.(or an additional way of scamming/selling dg)

I dont buy it though there must be a way of replacing the lock.

Even so i wouldnt think you would get much change from £150.

Sorry i couldnt be of more help.

We lost our keys, and just contacted the manufacturer for a spare set, they even sent us to them for free. If you know who made them then they should be able to sort you out. I think they may use all the same keys for their windows? Could be wrong but they sent me my keys the next day. I'm sure otherwise you could get a locksmith to open the lock, then unscrew the lock and fit another handle and lock?

Good idea but I think the garage door is original (30 years old) and the windows are probably 20 years old.

I'll count the number of handles and locks tonight it will be a fair few as it is an extended 4 bed house with a conservatory.

I'm annoyed that the sellers didn't sort this out, I paid enough for the house

    Gambler,

You may only need one key for the windows, since mine open and lock all of them.

A it might not be the cheapest option and possibly the last resort, but a decent and propper locksmith should be able to help you out. Avoid the ones that come around only drilling the pins in the locks out!
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

I have a damaged lock on one window, some link to the locking pins snapped inside - the builder doing the renovation said he'd unscrew the handle and 'wind' the pins open manually then replace the locking mechanism. There was a thread around for replacement lock parts..
